The “When Koala Meets Panda” 2019 China-Australia Youth Short Video Contest is coming. Initiated by the Consulate General of the PRC in Brisbane and organized by People’s Daily Online Australia, this short video contest aims to enhance the connection between China and Australia, as well as deepen the mutual understanding and establish a cultural bond between young people from these two countries.

This year, Australian youths and Chinese international students are required to create videos with the theme of “HELLO CHINA” and “HELLO AUSTRALIA” respectively. 2019 is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the participants are encouraged to film the videos which can show the significant development of China in the past years. Entries should be uploaded onto social media and the official website of the contest.

“Koala” represents Australian youths and Australian society while “Panda” symbolises China or any Chinese elements related. “Meet” means a personal perspective, through which we encourage participants to tell a story about their own understanding, their own experience or any story they heard about China or Australia.

The contest will be officially launched on August 1, 2019, and participants can start to upload their short videos via social media platforms. Finalists will be selected by People’s Daily Online Australia whilst the 4 individual awards will be selected by professional judges. The 4 individual awards include Best Story Award, Best Moment Award, Best Experience Award and Best Editing Award. According to the calculation of total views on Chinese social media platforms, the final award, “Most Popular in China” Award, will be determined and the winner will be invited to China for a one-week cultural exchange trip.

The contest is supported by the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, Study Queensland, Brisbane City Council, Study Brisbane, China Cultural Centre (Sydney) and China National Tourist Office in Sydney.
