About the Contest: "When Koala Meets Panda" 2021 China-Australia Short Video Contest

"When Koala Meets Panda" China-Australia Short Video Contest is back again. Initiated by the Consulate General of the PRC in Brisbane and organized by People's Daily Online Australia, this short video contest aims to enhance the connection between China and Australia, as well as deepen the mutual understanding and establish a cultural bond between people from these two countries.

This year, Australians and Chinese people are all welcome to create videos with the theme of “2021, When Koala Meets Panda”. 2021 will be the fifth year that "When koalas meet Pandas" has been held, and the second year that the contest has been organized during the pandemic periods. Participants are encouraged shoot the videos at home to reduce unnecessary travel, but you are welcome to use previous filmed video clips. Entries should be uploaded onto one of the participation social media platforms.

“Koala” represents Australian youths and Australian society while “Panda” symbolises China or any Chinese elements related. “Meet” means a personal perspective, through which we encourage participants to tell a story about their own understanding, their own experience or any story they heard about China or Australia.

The contest will officially start on September 1, 2021, and participants can start to upload their short videos via their social media platforms by November 30, 2021. Finalists will be selected by People's Daily Online Australia whilst the 4 individual awards will be selected by professional judges.

The 4 individual awards include Best Story Award, Best Presentation Award, Best Experience Award and Best Cooperation Award. According to the calculation of views on Chinese social media platforms, "Most Popular in China" Award will be selected from the 4 individual awards and the winner will receive a certificate, a trophy and a cash prize of 1,000 AUD.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Videos must under no circumstances contain any material which could be considered offensive, discriminatory, sexist, racist or affects the reputation of a person or organisation, and/or which alludes to political or religious issues or threatens public safety and orders.

2. The Organiser may reject any videos which contains materials contrary to clause 1 and may disqualify the Participant who submits the video from the completion.

3. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any aspect of the competition unforeseen in these terms and conditions, or any event or circumstance beyond the Organiser's control.

4. The Participant acknowledges and agrees that his/her video and associated personal information may be stored by the Organiser on an electronic database and may be used by the Organiser for the purpose of promoting or marketing of the competition without notice and without fees being paid to the Participant. The Organiser warrants that it will not use any personal information for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose or any purpose amounting to a breach of privacy of the Participant unless disclosed in these terms and conditions.

5. Upon participating in the competition, the Participant warrants that he/she:

a) is the copyright owner of the video or has obtained appropriate licence for the use of all copyright works and subject matters comprising the video;

b) guarantees that the video does not infringe on the privacy rights, copyright or any other rights of any person or entity;

c) grants the Organiser an irrevocable, royalty free, non-exclusive licence in perpetuity throughout the world to use, re-use, publish, re-publish the video, in whole or in part, through any medium, at present or in future;

d) has all necessary rights and licences to grant the licence set out in clause 5 (c);

e) will not make a claim against the Organiser in respect any rights or benefit that the Organiser otherwise entitles under the licence in clause 5 (c); and

f) is over 18 years of age and will assume full responsibility for the legal consequence of the video he/she provided.

6. The Participant acknowledges and agrees that the Organiser in conducting the completion will assume no responsibility for any breach by the Participant in respect of:

a) a warranty under clause 5;

b) any third party's intellectual property or other rights; or

c) any law.

7. The Participant acknowledges and agrees that he/she will indemnity and kept the Organiser indemnified against any loss, damage, costs or expense incurred by the Organiser arising out of or in connection with the Participant's breach of matters as described in clause 6 (a) – (c).

8. The Organiser reserves the right to remove or amend these conditions without prior notice to the Participant and shall under no circumstance be liable for any claims of damages arising from the removal or amendment of conditions under this clause 8.

9. For Participant who has been awarded with the "Most Popular in China Award", the '1-week cultural trip to China' will be limited to two persons from the winning team. The Participant acknowledges that he/she is aware of and agrees with this condition upon entry of the competition.

10. The Organiser reserves the right of final decision and interpretation should any disputes about the meaning of these terms and conditions arises.
